Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App and chief product officer of MobileCoin, has passed away after an apparent stabbing incident in San Francisco.

According to reports, Lee was stabbed in the downtown area of the city and later died in the hospital. The San Francisco Police Department has opened an investigation into the incident, which occurred early on Tuesday morning.

Lee’s father, Rick Lee, confirmed the news of his son’s death on Facebook, calling him his best friend.

Tech leaders have expressed their shock and paid tribute to Lee, who was well-known in the industry for his innovation and intelligence.

MobileCoin CEO Joshua Goldbard described Lee as a “dynamo” and “force of nature,” saying that he was made for the world that is being born right now.

Ron Conway, a venture capitalist who co-founded San Francisco-based SV Angel, said that the world had lost a great innovator, intelligence, and spirit.

Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter and Cash App developer Square, called Lee’s death “heartbreaking” and described him as instrumental to the payment system.

Lee co-founded Cash App, an alternative to traditional banking, while working as the chief technology officer for Square, now known as Block. He later joined MobileCoin in 2021, where he served as the chief product officer. Lee had earlier worked for Google, where he helped to develop the Android platform.

The stabbing of Bob Lee is a tragic loss for the tech industry and the wider community. His contributions to the development of innovative payment systems and cryptocurrency will be sorely missed. The thoughts and condolences of the tech world are with Lee’s family and friends during this difficult time.
